I was in no real rush to post today, but I must. I weighed 152.4 this morning. I would have loved to be down at least 2 pounds, but I think that I need to shift my focus from the actual weight, while still being accountable here, which helps me.

I am walking with my walking buddy, Molson, every chance I get. He has slimmed down noticeably as a result, and Brenda is having to feed him more! I know I'm getting fitter and that the walking is healthy.

I find myself making poor food choices when tired and not motivated to make the effort to prepare a proper meal. Yesterday I ate three, day old donuts that were hanging around. That was supper. It's not as bad as it sounds. I do eat so well at breakfast and lunch. It's when I get home at the end of the day that the "bad Belinda" comes out of hiding!

Still, I find myself encouraged by just telling someone and I know that this blog is helping me to stop the slide.

Poor food choices - SO EASY when you're tired.

I don't want to seem know-it-all or whatnot, but I do have a couple of suggestions for curbing the after-work slump that makes poor decisions so easy. Mega-protein in the AM is one. It really stabilises me and curbs post-3PM eating. If I don't have a big breakfast involving lots of protein, I am so hungry later.

Second thing is, if you know it's a problem for you, think ahead and leave yourself something in the fridge for when you get home. Like serve up an extra bit of dinner into a tupperware, and plan to eat that as soon as you get home. Or buy some protein bars or something, so there's something for you to cram in your mouth as soon as you get home to arrest the 4:00 sugar slump.

It's okay that you are 152 pounds. It goes on, it comes off. Again, your overall trend is down...just come up with some creative solutions for the problem spot in your day, and trust that the walking will pay off slowly.

Also: Molson is like a little microcosm...you'll see results on a little animal more quickly - there's a reason they use them for testing!

Notice you said "Brenda is having to feed him more"...think about that. If the walking is increasing Molson's need for nutrients, it's doing the same for you. Remember The Cautionary Tale of Shan the Overtrainer, and feed yourself what you need. You gotta keep the motor running. You might have to feed yourself small snacks throughout the day. Try 5 meals instead of 3, for instance...try to keep your metabolism up in the late afternoon.

Shan, you have encouraged me no end. I don't know what's wrong with me. I stopped and bought two chocolate bars on the way back to the office from a meeting this afternoon. Checking in and finding your very good advice has reminded me that I need to pack nuts (which I love) to chomp on and not focus just on the caloric value of them thinking I shouldn't eat them. Compared to the candy they are at least good food for the body!

Thank you for caring enough to toss out a lifeline to a sinking "slider" :)
